TE 803- Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II
Instructor: Linda Doornbos
This was another course that I took during my fifth year internship through Michigan State University. During this course I had the opportunity to collect and analyze data that helped drive my differentiated instruction. I focused on working with the families and the school community. Not only did I learn about differentiating instruction, but due to this professor I recognized the importance of taking time to learn about each student as an individual to help foster student learning.
TE 804- Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice II
Instructor: Timothy Bennett
This was another course that was offered during my internship year at Michigan State University. This course guided me in learning how to be an educator who supports students and remembers that they may not have it "yet". Professor Bennett taught us students about implementing a"Met" or "Not Yet" grading system. This is something that I still use today. I also learned about the teacher's roll in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and how to analyze that data so that I can support students to the best of my abilities.

EAD 850- Issues and Strategies in Multicultural Education
Instructor: Dr. Riyad Shahjahan
This course focused on the historical, pedagogical, and administrative considerations of multicultural education in educational settings regardless of student age. During this course I focused on analyzing films, articles, research, and books to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of a multicultural educational system. This course pointed out the importance of fostering a community for all students to feel supported and to implement research based practices that support a multicultural education system.
TE 846- Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructor: Dr. Dongbo Zhang
During this course I developed a stronger understanding of the developmental processes, instructional practices, and assessment principles that contribute to effective learning of reading and writing, especially when working with students with disabilities. This course offered new teaching methods and practices for accommodating the different needs of individual literacy learners. After taking this course I feel that I am better prepared to identify students who struggle, with what they struggle, and how to accommodate them in my daily lessons.

Summer 2016
CEP 840- Policies, Practices, and Perspectives in Special Education
Instructor: Dr. Carol Sue Englert
Throughout this condensed summer course, I developed a better understanding of the characteristics of students with disabilities and special needs. During this course I was able to learn more about creating websites, researching special needs and accommodations, and was able to create a mock Individualized Education Plan for a case study student. I learned the implications for legal and professional responsibilities of teachers. I attribute my knowledge about the policies, practices, and how to actually implement accommodations and modifications in a classroom to taking this course.
CEP 841- Classroom and Behavior Management in the Inclusive Classroom
Instructor: Dr. Troy Mariage
I took this course over summer break and came back in the fall with effective strategies to implement into the classroom. During this course I studied how to identify behavioral, social, and academic characteristics of children with special needs. My biggest take-away was the idea of self-control being taught in a classroom, that a student should be supported and taught how to take responsibility for their actions. I learned about PBIS, principles and techniques for classroom and behavioral management in the inclusive classroom, and worked toward designing my own versions of a school-wide, classroom-based and individual interventions.

CEP 804A- Literacy Instruction for Students with Mild Disabilities
Instructor: Dr. Carol Sue Englert
As one of the last courses that I took during my Master of Arts in Education program, I feel as if I learned more about methods for teaching literacy to students with mild disabilities that I would have in multiple years of teaching in a classroom setting. I created literacy intervention plans based off data that I collected, analyzed, and then interpreted. I focused on supporting struggling readers in my classroom and was able to use real life and authentic practices and methods for literacy instruction and interventions.
ED 870- Capstone Seminar
Instructor: Dr. Matthew Koehler
During this course I focused on reflecting and synthesizing learning experiences that I have had throughout my MAED online master's program. The course asked me to create an electronic showcase or electronic portfolio on the Web, showcasing my work and projects throughout the master's journey. I was also a part of an online professional discussion group that allowed me to grow as a learner even while I finish my master's.
