My name is Jennifer Mathieson. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2013 studying Elementary Education (specializing in Language Arts) and Spanish. I am certified to teach all subjects K-5, Language Arts grades 6-8, and Spanish grades K-8.
Currently I am a fifth-grade teacher in the Chicago area. I work with many different student learner profiles and teach in a mid/high-class suburban area. I am lucky to share that I studied abroad and speak Spanish, therefore I work with the EL (English Language Learner) teacher and students who are working toward English proficiency. This fall will be my third year in the district, still in the same school, classroom, and grade. I absolutely love my supportive "team" and my bosses. Right now I am working toward my master's specializing in Special Education. My goal in pursuing this degree is to learn more about special education practices, expectations, accommodations, and regulations.
I love to try new foods and seek out new places for adventure. I am enthusiastic about the history of different cities or countries and enjoy traveling. I love to garden, be on the water, and spend time with my family and friends. I also take time to work as the co-coordinator/coach of the program Girls On The Run and have coached for the past two years. This program allows me to work with students in a healthy way along with teaching self-esteem and healthy choices. This program also allows me to follow my newest passion, working out, and lead a healthy life along side the students.
